Reinventing process
The textile manufacturing process begins with spinning – one of the oldest craftsmanship ever made – turning a finite length of fiber into a continuous yarn. The process begins with fiber cleaning, blending, and carding, followed by drawing and twisting. Finally, the yarn is wound onto a wire tube for further processing. On a knitting machine, the yarn is unwound from a number of bobbins and fed into the machine in parallel. Mechanical and chemical treatments are then performed and the finished material is then made for tailoring. “Our initial idea was to bring the yarn production closer to the knitting machine,” explains MichaelLau, who has been working on research and development at Terrot since he completed his degree in textile machinery manufacturing. “You don’t always have the opportunity to reinvent the world’s oldest technology. But with the Cozizon process, we did it.”
Corizon yarns consist of cotton corespun or synthetic fibers called rovings. Although it looks like a thick yarn, the roving is not completely pulled out, so it is easy to tear and must be gently unwound from the tube. In a multi-stage continuous process, the fibers are wound onto the core spun yarn with a certain tension. “In the past, it was impossible to wind the yarn around the wire in this form,” Mutschler explained. “Therefore, the Cozizon yarn will give the final product a unique touch during the weaving process.”
