Three-phase half-bridge driver E523.50 for brushless DC motor applications
August 20, 2018, Germany's Elmos has announced the launch of a 72V three-phase half-bridge driver E523.50 for DC brushless (BLDC) motors for 12/24V automotive and 48V board-level power grids. For automotive applications and industrial applications from 24V to 60V power supplies, the IC meets AEC-Q100 standard level 0 (150 ° C) requirements.
The digital RUN pin and six digital inputs control three full-bridge gate drivers (three high-side and three low-side gate drivers). The IC can be configured with six direct control inputs or three enable and three PWM (pulse width modulation) inputs. For the latter configuration, the dead time can be automatically generated or set using an external resistor.
The device integrates a DC/DC buck converter that provides 100mA drive and other load drive for 11V gate voltage. The internal 3.3V control unit is capable of delivering up to 20mA to the microcontroller. External high voltage, high power transistors can be driven to achieve higher load requirements.
The features of the device also include comprehensive diagnostics and protection. The two error outputs show any overcurrent, low voltage and excessive temperature rise. QFN's backplane metal pad package structure provides excellent heat transfer performance, allowing the chip to operate at junction temperatures up to 170 °C.
