Open Loop And Closed Loop Efficiency Comparison

Open loop and closed loop efficiency comparison

To measure the relative efficiency of the open-loop and closed-loop systems, suppose we repeat the same test using the same two motors of the same size. This time we will run the closed loop and open loop motors side by side with the same inertia load, but the running programming keeps the motion curve constant and equal so that both systems can perform the same amount of work.

This is a relative comparison chart of the StepSERVO closed loop system and the open loop system. Note the superior performance of the closed-loop stepper system, as shown in the laboratory test results, comparing the acceleration (torque), efficiency (power consumption), position error (accuracy), heat generation and noise level of the two systems.

When the two motors repeatedly point to the same movement curve, the current consumption from the DC power supply to the two systems is measured and the power consumption is calculated. As can be seen from the value plot, the average power consumption of the open-loop stepper system is 43.8 watts, while the average power consumption of the closed-loop system is only one-third - an average of 14.2 watts. This significant difference in power consumption clearly indicates a more efficient operation of the closed loop system. Anyone who wants to increase the efficiency of an open-loop stepper system can now consider simply upgrading to a closed-loop system and expects to significantly reduce power consumption.

This comparison of the power consumption of the StepSERVO closed-loop system and the open-loop system shows the higher efficiency of the StepSERVO.
