Key Factors in Choosing Silent Automatic Blinds

You can make your choice like an expert by considering the following four key dimensions:

I. Core "Noise Source": Motor Type and Quality

The motor is the primary source of noise and the core factor determining quietness.

DC Motor vs. AC Motor

Choose a DC Motor: This is the preferred choice for quietness. DC motors run smoothly, start and stop gently, and noise levels are typically below 40 decibels (approximately the ambient sound level in a library). They are more energy-efficient and better suited for integration with renewable energy devices such as solar panels.

Choose an AC Motor with Caution: Traditional AC motors have high power but also higher operating noise, easily producing a noticeable "humming" sound, especially during startup and shutdown.

Inquire about Specific Decibel Values

Directly ask the seller about the maximum decibel level of the motor's operation. A high-quality silent motor should operate at less than 35 decibels, with top-tier products reaching below 25 decibels, making it virtually inaudible.

Built-in Motor vs. External Motor

Built-in motors are completely encapsulated within the roller tube or top groove, resulting in a more compact structure. This not only protects against dust but also provides some sound insulation and vibration damping, while maintaining a cleaner appearance.

External motors are typically used in heavy-duty or specialized blinds and are less advantageous in quiet home environments.

II. Transmission System: The Key to Smooth Operation
The power generated by the motor needs to be transmitted through the transmission system to raise, lower, or lower the blinds.

Belt Drive vs. Rope Drive

Belt Drive: Using a synchronous belt drive, operation is very smooth and quiet, with almost no impact noise. This is currently the preferred solution for mid-to-high-end quiet products.

Rope Drive: A traditional steel wire rope winding method. After prolonged use, the steel wire rope may wear, knot, or generate friction noise with the pulley, resulting in relatively higher noise levels.

Overall Structural Precision

Check the precision of the internal structure of the track or roller tube. Excessive gaps or loose parts will cause vibration and abnormal noise during operation. Choosing reputable brands usually ensures better craftsmanship and quality control.
