How does the arrester work in the high voltage switchgear

The 10kv high-voltage switchgear is used as a high-voltage device for power supply access and distribution, and is often damaged by thunderstorm lightning. Thundering causes the voltage of the high-voltage line to increase sharply and is transmitted to the high-voltage switchgear (), and the overvoltage impact eventually causes equipment damage. In order to solve this problem, the 10kv high voltage switchgear () will be equipped with a zinc oxide surge arrester to protect the equipment from safe operation.

Zinc oxide arresters are mainly assembled from zinc oxide resistors with a small nonlinear coefficient and good nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics. Under normal conditions, the zinc oxide arrester has an extremely large electrical resistance and exhibits an insulated state; in the case of lightning overvoltage, it exhibits a low resistance state and discharges lightning current, thereby preventing the 10 kv high voltage switchgear from being damaged by overvoltage.

Characteristics of zinc oxide arrester:

1. Simple structure, no gap, small size and light weight.

2. Fast response and good protection performance.

3. The flow capacity is large.

4, no freewheeling, can withstand multiple lightning overvoltage or operating overvoltage.

5, good resistance to pollution.
