Gear term definition

Among the geared motor, the gearbox is mounted on the motor to achieve the corresponding speed and force. Then the terms on the gear are divided into the following categories.

Gear teeth (tooth) - each of the gears for the engagement of the raised portion. In general, these raised portions are arranged in a radial pattern. The gear teeth on the mating gear are in contact with each other, resulting in continuous meshing of the gears.

Cogging - the space between two adjacent gears on the gear.

End face - A plane perpendicular to the gear or worm axis on a spur gear or cylindrical worm.

Normal - On the gear, the normal refers to the plane perpendicular to the tooth line of the tooth.

The top of the tooth - the circle where the tip of the tooth is located.

Root circle - the circle at the bottom of the groove.

Base circle - A circle on which the involute line forms a purely rolling circle.

Indexing circle - The reference circle for calculating the geometrical geometry of the gear in the end face. For the spur gear, the magic and pressure angles are standard values on the indexing circle.

Tooth surface - the side surface of the tooth between the cylindrical surface of the tooth tip and the cylindrical surface of the root.

Tooth profile - the section of the tooth surface that is cut by a defined surface (the plane of the spur gear is flat).

Tooth line - the intersection of the tooth surface and the indexing cylinder surface.

Face pitch pt - The indexing arc between the adjacent two side faces is long.

Modulus m - the quotient of the pitch divided by the pi, in millimeters.

Diameter p--the reciprocal of the modulus, in inches.

Tooth thickness s--love your indexing arc length between the tooth profiles on both sides of a tooth on the end face.

Tip height hα--the radial distance between the top circle and the index circle

Reference pitch circle: used to determine the reference circle size of each part of the gear, which is the number of teeth × modulus.

Reference pitch: A specific pitch line on the rack or the tooth thickness measured along this line, one-half the pitch.

Function pitch circle: When a pair of spur gears are used together, each has a tangent to make a rolling circle.

Reference pitch: A reference to the selected standard pitch, equal to the reference rack pitch.

Pitch circle: The two gears are connected to the heart line and the trajectory on each gear of the contact point is called a pitch circle.

Section diameter: pitch diameter.

Effective tooth height: A pair of spur gear crown heights, also known as working tooth height.

Crown height: the difference between the tip circle and the pitch circle radius.

Backlash: When the two teeth are engaged, the tooth surface is in contact with the tooth surface.

Tip clearance: When two teeth are engaged, the gap between the top circle of one gear and the bottom of the other gear.
