How To Repair The Motor Shaft?

How to repair the motor shaft?

The rotating shaft is the main component of the motor to transmit torque and drive the mechanical load. It must have sufficient mechanical strength to transmit the power of the motor and have sufficient rigidity to ensure that the motor does not vibrate during operation and the stator and the rotor collide. The motor shaft is usually made of 35 or 40 steel.

The normal motor shaft, in addition to having sufficient mechanical strength and rigidity, should be straight in the geometric centerline; the journal maintains a perfect circle; the shaft surface is smooth, no pits, corrugations and scratches; the keyway working surface should be vertical and flat. No cracks and damage.

Common damages to the motor shaft are shaft head bending, journal wear, shaft cracking, and shaft breakage. In addition to manufacturing quality problems, most of the causes of damage are caused by improper use or disassembly.

To check if the shaft is bent, place the shaft on a lathe

Use a dial gauge or a scribe needle to check the bending position and the degree of bending of the shaft.

When the shaft is not bent too much, a grinding journal, a slip ring or a commutator can be used to eliminate the influence of the bending of the shaft on the rotor core segment. For small motors, the rotor core segment can also be polished, but the increased clearance between the rotor and the stator cannot exceed 10% of the normal clearance.
