China's first large vertical pulse generator set was successfully developed
Recently, in the Southwest Institute of Physics of the Nuclear Industry of CNNC in Chengdu, China's first 300,000 kVA Angular pulse generator system passed the acceptance test, and the overall parameters reached the international advanced level. "As a six-phase high-current pulse generator set, its discharge power in about 10 seconds during operation is equivalent to Qinshan Phase I nuclear power plant with an installed capacity of 300,000 kilowatts." Deputy Director, Fusion Science Institute, Southwest Institute of Physics, Nuclear Industry Group, CNNC Li Qiang said.
The unit, jointly developed by the Southwest Institute of Physics of China Nuclear Power Corporation and Harbin Electric Machinery Co., Ltd. of Harbin Electric Group Co., Ltd., has a total weight of about 800 tons and a total height of about 15.5 meters. It is to meet China's advanced fusion research equipment, China Circulator No. 2 M (HL-2M) large-scale pulse "energy driver" developed for high-power, high-energy storage power requirements.

During operation, the unit generator is dragged by the motor for 15 minutes, the speed can be from 0 to 498 revolutions per minute, and then the rotor is energized to reduce the speed to 335 revolutions per minute in 15 seconds, while releasing 1350 megajoules of energy; After the machine releases energy, the speed will increase again to 498 rpm, and after 5 minutes of hold, the speed will be discharged again, completing a working cycle. "The rated speed of the unit is 500 rpm, the total energy storage capacity is 2600 megajoules, the rated voltage is 3 kV, and the rated current is 29 kA. It is also the largest vertical six-phase pulse generator set in China." Li Qiang said that comparison The original "China Circulator No. 2 (HL-2A)" used three pulse generator sets. "Only the discharge capacity and electric power output of this new unit are equivalent to the sum of the previous three units."
The components of the pulse generator are vertical and horizontal. The traditional horizontal type is limited by the weight of the rotor and the flywheel. It is not convenient to design a large-capacity pulse generator set. The vertical system's shaft system is vertical. There is no such problem. "As the first vertical shaft pulse generator in China, the unit is very different from the conventional hydro-generator in terms of motor structure and load type. Even without mature calculation methods and design experience, it needs to be greatly innovated. Xuan Weimin, deputy chief engineer of the Institute of Fusion Science, said that in the huge pulse generator, the rotor speed is constantly changing. How to maintain the overall stability of the equipment, how to control the vibration amplitude, how to design the cooling system, and how to program the six-phase motor. Writing is an unprecedented challenge. In the end, the R&D team pioneered a number of unique technologies to overcome the technical problems of six-phase high-current generators, high-inertia high-speed rotors, and broadband-variable control systems. In the process of development, a number of innovations with independent intellectual property rights were formed.
China Circulator No. 2 M (HL-2M) is another large tokamak newly developed on the basis of China's first large tokamak device with a divertor configuration, "China Circulator No. 2 (HL-2A)". The scientific research goal of the device is to explore the research of controlled nuclear fusion and realize the ultimate energy pursuit of human beings. The successful development of the pulse unit will drive the plasma current of the HL-2M device to more than twice that of the prior device and the plasma temperature to exceed 150 million degrees, thereby developing the plasma under the core level parameters on this device. Physical experiments and key technology research provide a strong guarantee.
