Rockwell Automation's new servo motor boosts machine performance
Speed is money, especially for manufacturers who want to produce processes such as continuous material processing, printing and coil conveying. With Rockwell Automation's new generation of AllenBradleyKinetixVPC servo motors, manufacturers can run machines faster and with greater torque, significantly increasing machine throughput.
“KinetixVPC servo motors provide high-speed continuous torque for extended periods of time,” said David Rajara, product manager for Rockwell Automation. “The internal permanent magnets allow the field to be weakened, reducing electromagnetic drag and allowing the machine to continue to carry loads and remain above the motor. Rated speed. This allows the manufacturer to operate the coil line and winder at high speed and constant power."
Cooling fans and heat sinks on the motor provide greater torque and higher power output. In addition, encoders with improved resolution and accuracy provide more precise and sensitive control, which is especially important in the printing industry.
KinetixVPC servo motors can also reduce machine downtime in a number of ways. Its bearings are larger and stronger, increasing the service life of L10 bearings by 60%. The optional single cable for power and feedback helps reduce installation, setup and maintenance time compared to dual cable motors. In addition, the quick-change fan can be replaced in the field to keep the machine running as much as possible.
The new motor can meet or exceed the IE4 rated efficiency value, saving energy costs compared to motors with IE3 or lower rated efficiency. Compared to larger and more energy-intensive motor and inverter solutions, Kinetix VPC servo motors consume very little power when used with the Kinetix 5700 servo drive.
Rockwell Automation has designed an integrated base mounting method for Kinetix VPC motors that replaces traditional flange mounting methods. This is especially true for applications that are more suitable for the base mounting method.
The KinetixVPC servo motor is currently only suitable for use with the Kinetix 5700 servo drive. Rockwell Automation plans to develop features for other drives in the future.
As part of the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture Platform, the Kinetix VPC servo motor and Kinetix 5700 drive are programmed using the Rockwell Software Studio 5000 design environment. This integrated design approach helps speed machine deployment and reduces the possibility of human error.
