How does the motor turn?

First, we need to understand the basic structure of the motor. The motor is mainly composed of two parts: the stator and the rotor. The stator usually consists of an iron core and a coil wound around the iron core. The coil is energized to generate a magnetic field, which attracts the iron core on the rotor. The rotor is composed of an iron core and magnetic materials. The magnetic materials on the iron core rotate due to the magnetic field of the stator.

 

So how does the motor turn? First, we need to transfer the voltage through the wires to the stator of the motor. When the closing of the circuit causes current to pass through the coils on the stator, a magnetic field is generated around the stator. The polarity of this magnetic field changes as the direction of the current changes, so the stator produces a rotating magnetic field.

The magnetic material on the rotor will rotate following the rotating magnetic field under the influence of the stator's magnetic field. Since the iron core in the rotor is continuous, there will be magnetic flux continuity, so a rotating magnetic field will also be generated on the iron core. The effect of this magnetic field will affect the stator again, causing the stator to continue rotating. This is why the motor turns on its own after starting.

 

When a motor reaches a specific speed, it reaches steady-state operation. At this time, the stator and rotor rotate at the same speed, and the magnetic field between them is stable. At this time, the motor can work normally.

 

In short, the rotation of the motor is the result of the interaction between the electromagnetic field generated by the coils on the stator and the magnetic material of the rotor. When starting, the rotating magnetic field generated on the stator will cause the rotor and stator to interact, and in the steady state, the motor will run smoothly. Through motors, we can convert electrical energy into mechanical energy to operate various other machines. Therefore, motors are an indispensable part of the modern industrial production process and have made great contributions to the development of society.
