Direct current motor

The English term for a direct-current motor can be abbreviated as DC motor. Therefore, it is also called a DC motor. This term is also used in this book.

The torque of a DC motor is proportional to the product of the magnetic field strength generated by the stator and the current flowing to the rotor. The magnetic flux formed by the excitation of the stator is called the field flux.

On the other hand, sometimes the rotor is called an armature, and its current is called the armature current. Amateur does not mean armature but is a device that generates the current used to generate torque.

DC motors can be roughly divided into two types: the permanent magnet excitation type that uses permanent magnets and the electromagnetic excitation type that does not use permanent magnets.

Permanent-magnet excitation type DC motor (permanent-magnet DC motor) is a motor that uses permanent magnets, including motors for models and motors for automotive auxiliary engines, etc. It is the most widely used motor in the world.

Permanent magnet excitation type DC motor is divided into the following three types according to the form of the armature (rotor).

①(slotted type)

②(slotless type)

③(coreless type)

(2) winding-field DC motor

The motor that generates the excitation beam type using an electromagnet is shown in Figure 1.5. The winding-field DC motor of the electromagnet excitation type is mainly used in medium-sized and large-sized products with an output of 1 horsepower (approximately 750W). According to the different connection methods between the magnetic field coil and the armature coil, it can also be divided into the following three types.
