Automobile engine start but no operation failure analysis

Automobile engine start but no operation failure analysis

The principle that the engine of the car starts but does not run is very: the crankshaft position sensor is faulty, the fuel is insufficient, the nozzle of the fuel injector is partially blocked or blocked, or the solenoid valve is faulty, etc., and the specific reason needs to be clarified in order to "prescribe the right medicine".

Engine starts but does not run fault

Possible cause of failure

◆ crankshaft position sensor failure

◆ insufficient fuel

◆The nozzle of the fuel injector is partially blocked or blocked, or the solenoid valve is faulty.

◆The engine electrical grounding is loose and unreliable

◆There is water or foreign matter in the fuel, which may result in failure to start or the engine may not continue to operate.

◆Ignition system is affected by moisture

Fault diagnosis method

Use the smart detector to read the freeze data. When the DTC is stored, the ECM records the vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data. When troubleshooting, the freeze data helps determine whether the vehicle is running or stopped when the fault occurs, whether the engine is warm or cold, whether the air-fuel ratio is lean or rich, and other data.

Diagnosis: Check for any of the following conditions:

1. If equipped with a key type ignition system, the ignition key is partially retracted or folded. When attempting to start the engine, the mechanical part of the vehicle key must be locked in the fully extended portion, and the remote door lock transmitter is parallel to the key. Retracting or folding the key portion when activated may interrupt radio frequency transceiver verification and result in intermittent failures. In this case, it is also possible to set the DTCB3055. If you receive an intermittent non-startup, it is necessary to discuss their start-up habits with the customer and confirm that the key lock is parallel to the key before starting the key lock to the fully extended position.

2. The crankshaft position sensor is faulty. Check the crankshaft position sensor engine reference signal with the troubleshooter. While starting the engine, observe the "EngineSpeed" parameter. During engine start-up, the troubleshooter should indicate that the speed is stable at 200-300r/min. If the speed value is abnormal, for example, the engine speed suddenly rises, the engine reference signal is not stable enough to allow the engine to start and operate correctly.

3. Insufficient fuel. Thoroughly check that the fuel delivery system supplies sufficient fuel to the fuel injector. Check the fuel supply parts for partial blockage or blockage.

4. The nozzle of the fuel injector is partially blocked or blocked, or the solenoid valve is faulty.

5. The fuel injector has insufficient energization time. In the event of such a fault, even if the fuel injector is capable of injecting fuel and the indicated fuel pressure is correct, there may not be enough fuel to start the engine. If the engine control module (ECM) receives incorrect inputs from various information sensors, the amount of fuel provided by the fuel injectors may not be sufficient to start the engine. All engine data parameters are checked with a diagnostic tool and compared to expected values or values of known good vehicles.

6. The engine electrical grounding is loose and unreliable. Check the engine for good and reliable electrical grounding.

7. There is water or foreign matter in the fuel, which may result in failure to start or the engine may not continue to operate. In cold weather conditions, water may freeze in the fuel system. After 30 minutes in the heated repair shop, the engine may start. As long as the vehicle is not parked overnight at freezing temperatures, this failure may not recur. Contaminated fuel may cause the vehicle to fail to start in extreme weather conditions.

8. The ignition system is susceptible to moisture. If the engine is started and operated in a warm and dry repair shop, the ignition system may be susceptible to moisture. When starting the engine, spray water on the ignition system components and wires to check for engine start-up or continuous operation.

9. If a stall occurs when the engine is about to start, check if the ground circuit of the crankshaft position sensor, intake camshaft position sensor or exhaust camshaft position sensor is open.
