8.Product knowledge

Induction motor is a single excitation device, its working principle is mutual inductance. It is similar to a transformer and works the same way. The difference between a transformer and an induction motor is that the transformer is a static device. An induction motor is a rotating device that induces an electromotive force in a current-carrying conductor whenever it is placed in a changing magnetic field. Through the principle of mutual inductance, the induced potential in the primary winding (stator winding) is induced in the short-circuited secondary winding (rotor winding).

Induction motors mainly consist of two main components. They are the stator and rotor, respectively, where the stator consists of a stack of annular silicon steel laminations. It is mounted within the stator frame and contains slots on its inner perimeter. These slots carry the three-phase windings and are spaced 120 degrees apart. The rotor, on the other hand, consists of a stack of laminations in the form of a cylinder. It has punched holes on its outer circumference, which contain the rotor windings. Rotors are divided into two categories according to the type of winding.

With the help of a rotating magnetic field, the induction motor begins to generate torque, which then spins the rotor of the induction motor. Depending on the supply phase system, it can be a single-phase or three-phase induction motor based on a given supply. Single-phase induction motors are not self-starting motors, while three-phase induction motors are self-starting motors. The self-starting of the motor depends on the torque produced by the RMF. Single-phase induction motor cannot generate pulsed electromagnetic, because it is single-phase, so single-phase induction motor is not a self-starting motor. It is initiated through an external source. The pulsed electromagnetic formed by the three-phase induction motor produces the torque that can make the rotor rotate, so it is a self-starting motor.

Due to their basic, economical design and construction, induction motors are generally less expensive to manufacture than synchronous and DC motors. This makes them ideal for industrial fixed speed applications such as wind power and wind turbine generators.

The simplicity of an induction motor also makes its maintenance easier and less frequent, reducing operating costs over time. This cost efficiency gives induction motors a significant advantage over synchronous and DC motors, which have many additional components such as slip rings, commutators, and brushes. Induction motors also have the advantage of being durable, a robust induction motor that can operate for years without attention and maintenance, even in harsh environments. With no brushes (and sparks), induction motors can operate safely in explosive or other environmental conditions, providing flexible solutions for oil and gas, material handling, and more. Induction motors also have unique advantages, including self-starting torque. This function does not require a starting capacitor, which is usually required for single-phase motors.
