Advantages and disadvantages of hub motors

1. High efficiency and increased cruising range.

The efficiency of the hub motor is very high because it simplifies the mechanical transmission structure of the reducer, transmission, fork speed, etc., which greatly reduces the weight of the chassis and reduces the weight of the whole vehicle. At the same time, the transmission loss is avoided, the system efficiency is improved, and the cruising range can be increased by about 10%.

2. Simplify the chassis and save the mechanical connection.

By using the hub motor technology, the chassis structure is optimized, and the vehicle no longer requires mechanical components such as axles and drive shafts. In addition, NVH, dynamics, etc. have been plagued by the problem of the chassis. Reduced system complexity can reduce the development cycle of the chassis, from 3 years to 1 year or even shorter.

3, four wheels can be driven independently, can achieve a variety of complex driving methods.

When the four wheels can be driven independently, the four wheel power distribution can be dynamically adjusted, which can greatly improve the stability and dynamics of vehicles under different roads. On the other hand, the four-wheel drive can achieve in-situ steering and lateral translation, helping to solve the parking problems that novices are most worried about.

4. It is convenient to adopt a variety of new energy vehicle technologies.

Since electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles all require electric drives, hub motors can be used for any new energy vehicle. In addition, the braking energy recovery technology of new energy vehicles can also be applied to the in-wheel motor drive models.

1. The quality of the unsprung is increased, which affects the handling of the car.

The increased mass of the unsprung will increase the rms value of the dynamic load of the tire and the vibration acceleration of the vehicle body. Therefore, the vertical vibration amplitude of the vehicle is increased, which affects the grounding characteristics of the tire, which is not conducive to the dynamic control and ride comfort of the vehicle.

2. The motor is easy to overheat

Since the car is often under heavy load conditions such as climbing, the hub motor is in a very limited wheel space and is prone to overheating. Overheating of the motor can affect the torque density and can also cause demagnetization of the magnet.

3, the cost is relatively high

Due to the current industrialization progress of the hub motor, the technology is also monopolized by a small number of enterprises, and the cost is relatively higher than that of the highly industrialized motor.
